2009 Annual MSAN Conference

Dearborn, MI
June 24-25, 2009

The 2009 Annual MSAN Conference Planning Committee is looking to MSAN districts to share their work in addressing the needs of our students of color as we focus on closing the many achievement gaps that persist in our schools. The theme of this year's conference, Accelerating Growth - Aligning Beliefs and Actions, pushes our thinking regarding how our beliefs and practices lead to successful educational experiences for our students.

Five program strands provide the framework for the 2009 conference:

Please reflect upon the work going on in your district relative to the five conference strands and consider presenting a 90 minute breakout session to your MSAN colleagues. We have provided several examples of topics connected to one or more of the strands:

  1. Algebra: Success for All (Math)
  2. Increasing Cultural Competence (Relationships)
  3. Disproportionality (Equity and Access)
  4. Continued Honest Conversations about Race
  5. Best Practices and Interventions Across Content Areas (Math/Literacy)
  6. Creating the Motivated Classroom (All Strands)
  7. Using Data to Impact Achievement (All Strands)

Proposals will be selected based upon the following criteria:
